The haldi ceremony is believed to remove evil. Also haldi ceremony is a way to offer blessings to the couple. Haldi (Turmeric) is a sacred spice used in India for cooking, medicine and in rituals. Haldi (Turmeric) commonly used in Ayurvedic Medicine (Traditional Indian medicine system) used as a treatment for a variety of conditions and is valued for its anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and bacteria-fighting properties. It may be consumed or applied externally as a paste. Turmeric is known for its anti-cancer properties.

 

In the morning of wedding day or day before wedding, Haldi paste is applied to the bride's and groom's bodies as a purification rite. The couple then stays at their respective homes until the wedding. Haldi ceremony represents as cleansing procedure for the bride and groom. Haldi Ceremony is considered as blessing for the prosperity for the couple about to begin their new together. Another reason for conducting Haldi ceremony is to rid the couple from evil eye. After Haldi Ceremony, Bride and Groom to stay in their houses to prevent all evil spirit.

 

Haldi paste is to be applied by relatives and friends to face, neck, arms, hands and feet of Bride and Groom. Members of family and friends gather around Bride and Groom, place small amount of haldi paste (Turmeric Paste) on Bride and Groom.

During this ceremony, Bride and Groom apply small amount of Haldi paste to their unmarried siblings and friends. It is believed that, whoever gets touched by this paste is soon to find a partner. Washing with Haldi (Turmeric) reveals glow and purification.
